Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the [sport] program (varsity, junior varsity, and feeder programs where applicable).
Develop and implement a comprehensive program philosophy aligned with district and MSHAA standards.
Establish clear expectations for student-athlete conduct, performance, and academic achievement.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure full compliance with all Missouri State High School Activities Association rules, bylaws, and eligibility requirements.
Maintain accurate records for eligibility, physicals, participation, and required documentation.
Monitor and enforce student-athlete academic eligibility standards.
Coaching & Instruction
Plan and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Provide instruction that promotes physical, mental, and emotional growth of student-athletes.
Evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive feedback.
Student-Athlete Development
Foster a culture of respect, discipline, and accountability.
Support student-athletes in balancing academics and athletics.
Promote leadership, character development, and positive decision-making.
Staff Supervision
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for coaching staff.
Game & Event Management
Organize and supervise competitions, including scheduling, transportation, and supervision.
Ensure proper game-day procedures, safety protocols, and sportsmanship standards are followed.
Communication & Community Engagement
Maintain open communication with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and community stakeholders.
Promote the program through school and community engagement activities.
Represent the school in a professional manner at all events.
Safety & Risk Management
Ensure a safe environment for all participants, including proper use of equipment and facilities.
Respond appropriately to injuries and emergencies, following district protocols.
Maintain current required certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid, concussion training).
Minimum Qualifications:
Previous coaching experience in [sport], preferably at the high school level.
Knowledge of Missouri State High School Activities Association rules and regulations.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and community.
Valid teaching certificate (preferred, depending on district).
Required background check and clearances.
Knowledge/Skills:
General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Working Conditions:
Requires evening, weekend, and travel commitments.
Ability to work outdoors and in various weather conditions (sport-dependent).
